The first morning in Stanley, ID and we have quite a bit of smoke around so you have to look closely to see the mountain range
Morning was 29 degrees, but as the sun came up it warmed up quickly. Trying to see the awesome Sawtooth Mtns through the smoke
Tom and I at the Iron Creek Trail head. The start of our 56 mile trek.
I think you can tell why they called this range the Sawtooth Mountains
The closer we were to the range the better you can see them, due to the smoke haze. It was a really nice day!
Looking farther into the horizon, the haze really begins to show in the pictures
Looking at where a section of the mountain had slid.
There were two Alpine Lakes on this trip. This one we just walked by, but were quite impressed with it. The other was camped at later in the week.
A zoomed in view of Alpine Lake as we ascended towards Sawtooth Lake
As we climbed we came across wonderful views of the jagged mountain range.
Looking down on Alpine Lake.
Alpine Lake - look closely and you can see other hikers laying out on that rock.
The trail leads us where....
The foot of Sawtooth Lake
Log jam at the foot of Sawtooth Lake. I would hate to have to cross here during the spring snow melt.
Interesting path along the side of the lake.
Sawtooth Lake and the view from our lunch spot!
Sawtooth Lake
I couldn't believe the color of the water. If didn't have another 5 or 6 miles, it looked very inviting. We saw others swimming.
Looking back as we wrap around the lake.
Finally look back at Sawtooth Lake
Remarking on how awesome the day was and what a great spot to have lunch.
Looking forward towards our destination, down the valley.
Couldn't resist turning around for another view of Sawtooth Lake.
As we come over a small ridge from Sawtooth Lake the trail leads us to this small lake.
We almost never got to eat without being harrassed by these chipmonks. There were quite brazen and would come within a foot of you to swipe anything they could get there hands on.
Campsite 1 - Hotel Krivo and Owens ready for us.
